Polyethylene: the perfect raw material for industrial projects

28 de November de 2022 - Polyethylene, Rotomolding

Learn about the properties of polyethylene and why it is considered the ideal raw material for industrial rotomolding projects.

Polyethylene is a thermoplastic resin widely used in industry, mainlybecause its properties enable the production of a vast array of parts and equipment. The resin is derived from the polymerization of ethylene, and it is crystalline and flexible. In rotomolding, it allows for the production of large parts with low tooling investment.

Rotomolded plastic, the material Rotoplastyc uses in its products, delivers high-quality, durable solutions across various market sectors, including industry, retail, civil construction, sanitation/environmental services, logistics, food, agriculture, and more.

There are several types of polyethylene (PE) available on the market, which differ based on the reaction conditions and catalytic systems used in the polymerization process. However, three main types of polyethylene can be identified: LDPE (Low-Density Polyethylene), used for household items and packaging, for example; HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene), used in industrial-use containers and automotive tanks, for instance; and LLDPE (Linear Low-Density Polyethylene), used in diapers and packaging, among other applications.

Rotoplastyc works with HDPE, one of the most widely used plastic polymers in the world, known for its regular and stable molecular structure, which results in final products with superior characteristics compared to other plastics. Thanks to its excellent mechanical, physical, hydraulic, and chemical properties, as well as its high molecular weight, HDPE is ideal for manufacturing products such as: pipes, flexiblepackaging, household and automotive items, sewage collection networks, tanks for agricultural machinery, boats, and other products that demand durability, flexibility, and lightness.

The advantages of using PE in industrial projects

One of the greatest advantages of using polyethylene in industrial projects is that it allows for the production of lighter, highly resistant, and low-cost parts. Moreover, as the pieces have no seams, cleaning is much easier.

Another important aspect is sustainability. The raw material used, in its natural state, is 100% recyclable. And when a thermoplastic isdiscarded, polyethylene can return to the beginning of the process and be 100%reused without losing its properties.

The product contains no toxins (it is composed only of hydrogen and carbon) and can be manufactured in a wide variety of colors and sizes. That is because thermoplastics, when cold, maintain a specific shape, and when heated, can be reshaped without any damage to the material. In other words, they are polymers that soften and melt under heat. Once cooled, they can form products in a wide variety of shapes.

For all these reasons, and thanks to its properties, polyethylene and romolding are an excellent choice for manufacturing parts for industries across a wide range of sectors, meeting all requirements within a new product and equipment development project. Rotoplastyc develops custom projects for various industrial sectors, according to the solutions sought by each client.
